On Great Hour of Sharing

March 1st and 2nd

Join United Methodist worldwide by making a special offering through The “One Great Hour of Sharing” to support humanitarian aid through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).  You can be assured that when catastrophes cause suffering, your church, impelled by Jesus’ love and compassion, will be in the lead to ease the pain.  Gifts to this offering underwrite UMCOR’s “cost of doing business”.  UMCOR is a good steward of God’s gifts.  Offering gifts over and above those used to cover administrative costs are channeled where they’re most needed.  UMCOR’s specialized ministries (responding in disaster, fighting hunger, alleviating poverty, providing relief supplies around the world, and offering hospitality to immigrants and refugees) all assist the most vulnerable people whose need is greatest.  The compassion of Jesus makes all things new.  As Christians we’re called to do the same:  to offer the hands, the heart and the hope of the church wherever people are suffering.  Your gifts to the One Great Hour of Sharing, channeled through UMCOR, enable the church to answer that call.

Mission Updates

News from  McCurdy School Missionaries,

Earl & Rosemarie McMillen

We are comfortably settled in the dorm here at McCurdy.  Rosemarie was assigned as house mother for the dorm, the building the volunteers and other visitors stay in.    She is also a volunteer in the office of Church Relations doing secretarial work and is substitute teaching Spanish.   Earl is substitute teaching and doing after school tutoring.  Both Earl & Rosemarie were judges for a science fair and got to meet several people in the area. In the “off” hours they work on labels and 10 cent box tops that come from churches like ours.

John & Colleen Eisenberg

Paraguay Missionaries

John will be in the U.S. following radical prostate surgery.  He is thinking about pursing a degree in nursing so that he can help with the mobile medical clinic in Paraguay.  He will need to take some prep classes before May.  They ask for prayers in finding the right school.  Daniel is looking for a summer internship in Computer Information Systems and Elizabeth is looking for her first summer job.  Faith and Colleen are doing well.

Grace United Methodist Church

Pitch-in at 6 p.m.  Program at 7 p.m.

The Wertz family have served for many years in the Tanzania area.  Lowell became a bush pilot and they fought a cholera epidemic on the Congo River.  They had to evacuate to Zaire and lost everything.  They start Joy in the Harvest  and began helping refugees from Rwanda and Burundi.  They have completed many construction projects including a church.  Don’t miss the hearing this couple who have given their lives serving in Africa.

METRO MINISTRIES

We are a part of Metro Ministries because we live in the Indianapolis metro area. Methodist churches in Marion County and the surrounding counties provide services to the less fortunate through community centers.

Fletcher Place, Brightwood and Vida Nueva serve the needy with meals, food pantries, thrift stores, tutoring, a variety of classes, pre-school, Kids Club, summer camp, Vacation Bible School and more.

We can help with funding, with snacks for classes, with meals, with incentive prizes, with clothing for thrift shop, with food for pantries.  This information provided by your missions committee.
